Paul Callaghan died from cancer March 24, 2012 at the age of only 64. He was very well known in the world of Magnetic Resonances. His book on NMR Microscopy is a classic. He was also famous as a very brilliant teacher.

Recently, he served as President of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance from 2008 to 2010.

You can find much about all his work and his activity on many web sites.

Tributes to Paul Callaghan are reported at this link: http://paultcallaghan.wordpress.com/.

Here, we only want to write the words used by his former students to give the announcement of his death on the Ampere Magnetic Resonance mailing list:

“Many of you will still remember his passionate address at last years ICMRM. It was hard to imagine at that time that he was already seriously ill. But he defeated death for years and eventually he taught us how to die – brave and with dignity – just as he taught us to live for many decades before that.”
